Falling Leaves Already, Ellen!

The hurricane we had a few weeks ago really took the good out of a lot of the leaves in this area of Newfoundland and some have fallen already. We did have some rain over the weekend and that seems to have rejuvenated the trees a little. Hopefully we will get some colour before all the leaves fall!

In the meantime, I thought it would be a good time to showcase the Falling Leaves Scarf and Fingerless Gloves pattern that I recently completed. And, Angela agreed to model the scarf and gloves for me when we went to Cape Spear for a look around last week. As you know, I love visiting Cape Spear and with visitors in town, it was just the right excuse to take another trip out there.

Ellen stayed home to keep an eye out for that blue jay (which we haven't seen since!), plus it was much too windy for her at Cape Spear that day anyway.

The Scarf and Fingerless Gloves are knit using Artyarns Regal Silk - 100% silk and feels like it belongs next to the skin. If this scarf and gloves were sitting next to you on a table, you'd find yourself absent-mindedly petting it. Yes, it's that nice!

If you are interested in the scarf and fingerless gloves pattern, you can buy it here.

We explored all of Cape Spear and took dozens of pictures.  Here's a few!

Fallen leaves.  :-(

Some leaves still hangin' on.

Backyard Visitors, Ellen!

Recently we've been having a lot of backyard visitors, which are very welcome. They are mostly birds and I've gotten a few pictures of them (and a butterfly!), but they're really quick and I can't always effectively sneak around with the camera in time to get the perfect shot. I've been trying to get a shot of a blue jay who started visiting this week, but he's pretty elusive!

Some backyard visitors are easier to get pictures of....like Angela for example, who is visiting from Vancouver this week with her boyfriend. I wanted to try out the Knit Picks Shine Worsted on the machine as I've only ever knit it by hand up to this point: Alana's and Annie's summer mesh sweaters. Shine Worsted is 60% cotton/40% modal. It feels lovely when knit and Angela is pleased with the outcome.

Two weekends ago I had the privilege of being the backyard visitor, when John and I visited John's sister and her family. I had the pleasure of seeing Joey and Meg again. Joey even did a rolly (kicking up his heels while rolling on his back on the grass) and I caught him on camera. So cute!

I have Ellen on watch for that blue jay! If we get a snap of him/her, we'll certainly post it.

We met this guy on the way to John's sister's house. When we slowed for him to move off the road
he came to the side of the car to check us out!

What's a Snood, Ellen?

Last post I promised I'd show you some pictures of Long Point Lighthouse, near Twillingate. When I took a second look I realized that I have only one lighthouse picture and it's not even the full lighthouse, so you just get a glimpse. Inside the lighthouse they have the whole Story of the Titanic set up around all the walls. John and I paid the $5 each and went in to read it. Very well done! It's similar to the one that's set up at The Johnson Geo Centre in St. John's. The trails and picnic area just off the road on the way to the lighthouse is very scenic and I do have pictures of that!

In the meantime, while we are on the topic of lighthouses, Jennifer and I went to Cape Spear this week to do a photo shoot with a snood. Some of you fashion conscious followers will know what a snood is, but for those of you who don't know, it's a scarf/hood one piece combination. The snood Jennifer is modelling below is machine knit with Knit Picks Telemark and trimmed with Berlini Bunny Soft. (Yes, it is bunny soft!)

Ellen did join us at Cape Spear, but it was the day before Hurricane Leslie landed and while she did have a sweater to model, Jennifer had to assist her to stand up to the wild wind.  Ellen is modelling a machine knit sweater that I think is a good berry pickin' sweater. It's knit with Berlini Mirage which is a cotton/wool/acrylic blend and would be very suitable for berry pickin'. You can see from the pictures that it was blowing a gale. We were okay with going home for a cup of tea.

The free pattern for the snood can be found here. I've named it "Misunders'nood." :-)

I'm not sure what this is. I just liked the way the light was on it with the bright colours.

Looking across toward Cabot Tower.  Leslie was coming our way!

See the blurry right sleeve - no way to keep it still unless we tied it on.

We all need a little help from our friends sometimes!

Eye Candy, Ellen!

A few weeks ago, John and I went on a little road trip to Bridgeport again to visit our friends. Of course while we were out there, we took the opportunity to visit a few other places that we had never seen, Valleypond, Tizzard's Harbour and Long Point Light House. The weather was lovely and the views exquisite! Below are some photos from Bridgeport, Valleypond and Tizzard's Harbour. Eye candy!
We'll save Long Point for next post.

Ellen stayed at home this time because there was no modelling work for her. I did knit a road trip hat! Had to model it myself though because Ellen doesn't have a head. Note to self:  must buy a styrofoam head if I'm going to be knitting hats.

I knit this hat from a pattern in called Welted Toque in Weekend Hats by Cecily Glowik Macdonald and Melissa Labarre. It's knit with Knit Picks Wool of the Andes. Fun pattern to knit.

Sittin' pretty at Valleypond

Our friends' shed. I like the way the wheelbarrow is laying against the shed with the
light and shadows.

We stayed in the house on the hill.

Doug's boat - See the reflection of the sky in the water and then unto the boat at the back? Lovely.
